The City of Oxford Choir, in collaboration with Instruments of Time and Truth, invites you to experience the rich choral soundworlds of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven as we celebrate 20 years under the direction of our Musical Director, Duncan Aspden. The event is part of the Oxford Festival of the Arts, and is one of the last performances at SJE Arts  before it sadly closes as a concert venue. We are delighted to welcome four excellent professional soloists on this special occasion.


Haydn’s Nelson Mass, also known as the Mass in Troubled Times, was written during immense geopolitical uncertainty, with Napoleon threatening Austrian sovereignty at a time of economic upheaval for the nation. The resulting work is often described as the composer’s greatest composition, exuding triumphant jubilation amidst dramatic darker passages.


Haydn’s masterpiece will be accompanied by Mozart’s energetic settings of the Solemn Vespers, his final piece…
